Promises rehab served with subpoena

Kevin Federline's defense team delivered another subpoena yesterday morning for his upcoming custody trial against Britney Spears. KFed's lawyer confirms that Promises Treatment Center in Malibu was served yesterday morning, saying, "An executive administrator from Promises rehab facility was served with a subpoena." This is the fourth subpoena delivered by Federline's team in the singer's increasingly high-profile custody case. Earlier in the week, Spears's former assistant Shannon Funk, bodyguard Daimon Shippen and friend Alli Sims were served with legal papers. "Kevin an his attorneys...are on a mission," says a source close to the proceedings. "They are pursuing all relevant evidence from every potential source and available witness." A spokesperson for Promises refused to comment, saying, "This is a confidential facility and we cannot comment."

Brit's lawyer close to resigning

Even Britney Spears's attorney is tired of her. According to TMZ, sources close to the divorce case say Laura Wasser is about to resign as the popstar's lawyer. Wasser sealed the deal on Spears's divorce from Kevin Federline last month, and has reportedly put her in touch with other lawyers who could help in her ongoing custody battle.

Britney does Allure

Allure mag's editor-in-chief is doing damage control on the rumors that Britney Spears was uncooperative and unfocused during her cover shoot for the September issue. "Britney showed up for Allure's cover shoot on time and ready to work," Linda Wells writes in the issue. "She was entirely unselfconscious. She took off her wig and then stripped down to the waist, for no apparent reason, before sitting for hair and makeup." The popstar wore a "shoulder-length brown wig over her own closely cropped blonde hair," the editor added, describing Spears as "ageeable and cooperative." Turn out it wasn't all peachy: "She missed four appointments for an interview with Allure," says the editor. The cover story had to be changed into an editorial piece by the would-be interviewer, detailing her frustrations with the popstar's cancellations and delays.

Another assistant served; Britney planning MTV splash

Another former assistant to Britney Spears was served a subpoena from Kevin Federline's lawyer last night to testify in her ex-boss's custody trial. Shannon Funk arrived at the Long Island airport to a waiting throng of paparazzi and the legal papers.

According to the New York Daily News, Spears is getting ready for a surprise performance at the MTV Video Music Awards with new manager Jeff Kwatinez. Her record label is reportedly "worried any missteps (or a no-show) could hurt her comeback."

Brit's bodyguard served; lawyers fight for privacy

More Britney Spears stuff... The popstar's former bodyguard (this girl goes through staff more often than she wears underwear) has been served with two subpoenas from Kevin Federline's lawyer, forcing him to testify in Spears's custody trial. Daimon Shippen was served late last night by the same process server who presented Spears's former assistant, Alli Sims, with a similar order over the weekend. And insider close to Federline says more people in Spears's inner circle will also be compelled to testify. "This is an ongoing operation," says the source. Meanwhile, lawyers for both Spears and Federline were in court this morning arguing for privacy in their case. "The public's right to know is not outweighed by Federline's right to keep his kids safe," Spears's lawyer said outside the family courtroom. "You have got to wonder why the public interest in this case is so great." An attorney for several media outlets filed an objection to Federline's lawyer's request that records relating to the ongoing custody case should be sealed from the public. "Anytime you have a case with a minor child it is important that the children be protected," said KFed's lawyer.

Family insider dishes on Brit

Paparazzi agency X17 claims to have spoken exclusively with a source they say is "very close" to Britney Spears and her family. The source, who called himself "Jeff," said the following:

"Britney does NOT do drugs!" - "Jeff" says the popstar is strictly against any type of drug use and against anyone involved in any type of drug use.

Britney doesn't hate her ex, Kevin Federline. He was "hardly even present during most of their marriage," said the source, but Spears would have considered staying with him for the sake of their children. "Staying with a liar just to make life easier for your children - if that's not pure devotion for your kids, then what is? Britney can get any guy she wants, it's just hard to weed out the good ones from the bad ones."

Britney is not worried about her impending custody battle. Spears knows no one around her has evidence or proof of her doing anything that would make her an unfit mother. "Anyone close to Britney knows that she's an angel when it comes to being a mom and friend."

On her family: "They have issues of their own that they need to work on. They need to quit blaming Britney," says the source, who added that Spears was forced into rehab as a result of the influence of her former manager Larry Rudolph on her family. The source also claims that staff at Promises rehab administered medication on Spears despite a record of constantly clean drug tests. Promises then quickly backed off accusations of drug and alcohol abuse and claimed postpartum depression. Spears was forced to stay in rehab because of threats from her family, managers, and officials at Promises that they would take away her children.

Why she shaved her head: After hearing from Federline that hair could be used in drug testing to pick up traces of residual drugs in the body, Spears shaved her head and begged her mom and Federline to test it (which didn't happen). Instead, her family staged an intervention in a hotel room. Spears is said to have met with attorneys over a month ago regarding legal action against Promises. "I think she certainly has a case against the rehab center. I feel what they did to her was not only cruel and embarrassing it added more ammunition aiding Kevin's eagerness for custody over her finances, whoops I mean children," said the source.

On the press: "Britney is very clever. She's a seasoned celebrity veteran, if anyone knows how the press spins stories, it's Britney," says the source. "Get it straight people, Britney doesn't go out when her kids are home!! Come on, she has shared custody there is half the week when she's not with her kids! The press needs to quit being so ignorant at times. If you had 50 cameras and cameramen hovering around you, inches away from you at all times, pushing and shoving, wardrobe malfunctions are bound to happen."

Britney's "cousin" to testify in custody battle

Britney Spears's longtime companion Alli Sims was thrown in the middle of the popstar's custody battle early Sunday morning when she was served with legal papers. Sims was reportedly leaving a party in the Hollywood Hills at 2:30 a.m. when she was served with a deposition subpoena sent by Kevin Federline's lawyer compelling her to testify about Spears's parenting skills. "Alli was really shocked and covered her face," said an observer. "[She was] really distraught and said, 'Oh my God.'" Federline filed for primary custody of sons Sean and Jayden last week.

KFed files for primary custody

Kevin Federline has reportedly filed a court order to show cause for primary physical custody of his two sons with ex-wife Britney Spears. The papers were filed in LA Superior Court earlier today. When the former couple's divorce was finalized two weeks ago, 50/50 custody was agreed to, but a source close to Federline hints he is worried about Spears exposing Sean Preston and Jayden James to "unnecessary risk." The would-be rapper's attorney "hopes to get Kevin primary custody."

Britney's lip-smacking pool party

Us Weekly's Britney Spears story this week:

"The latest man to fall into the hard partying pop star's orbit is Matt Encinias, a 21-year-old college student... In just five hours, Encinias went from being an extra in her latest video to pounding drinks and locking lips with the single mom of two in a rooftop pool at LA's Standard Downtown hotel. Although Spears was expecting her two young sons to be dropped off at her Beverly Hills home at noon (as per her custody arrangement with their father, Kevin Federline), the singer had arranged to have the pool reopened at 2 a.m. for the exclusive use of her group, which included then-assistant Shannon Funk and some hand-picked male extras from her video shoot. 'Britney was the first one to undress, and then everyone else followed,' Encinias tells Us. 'I turned around and saw that she was topless and she had fake tattoos of flowers on her nipples from the shoot... I was told all she wanted to do that night was kiss a boy,' the 5'10" California native continues. 'And that's what she did. Mission accomplished.' It was when the alcohol started running low that an inebriated Spears, 25, suggested a game of Truth or Dare. 'I was dared to get naked and get out of the pool and walk as though I was on a catwalk in a fashion show,' says Encinias. 'Britney was laughing really hard.'"

I guess for the rest of the story, Us Weekly wants you to buy their latest issue.

Britney's "cousin" aspires to pop stardom

Where has Britney Spears's former constant companion and rumored "cousin" been of late? Turns out, she's left the popstar's side to work on a singing career of her own. Alli Sims updated her website this week to include her first song, a cover of On My Own from Les Miserables. "She heard my songs on the laptop and was like, 'I love this song! This is you singing?'" Sims says of Spears. "She has always been supportive." Of the popstar's oft-questioned parenting skills, Sims says, "She's a wonderful mom and she's so hands-on... Britney loves those babies to death. And they adore her... I love her, she's beautiful inside and out. We're still great friends." Of her music, the aspiring singer says, "I don't dance, I'm not pop. I have a more bluesy voice, more Norah Jones-ish. I don't want to appeal to just my age group and younger." Sims moved to LA and worked as an assistant to wedding planner Mindy Weiss before hooking up with Spears. "I was just doing that for a little while, and we had a great time together," she says. "I hope everything falls into place, and maybe by January I will have a lot of things under my belt and get to release something. I just want to do what I love. [Music] is my passion."

Did Britney make a death threat?

Britney Spears has been accused of threatening two photographers after they took pictures of her leaving a Vegas spa last week. Spears's bodyguard was involved in a scuffle with two paparazzos at the Wynn Las Vegas hotel when the popstar allegedly yelled, "I am going to kill you!" at one of the photogs. Cesar Julia Camera, Spears's strongarm, is accused of throwing one of the photographers to the ground and punching and kicking him until pulled off by security. Afterward, Spears allegedly threw a baby bottle at the downed man. According to a statement by the photogs' lawyers, Spears made the threat in front of several hotel guests and bystanders and advised the paparazzo to get a restraining order because she was going to kill him or hire someone to do so.

Spederline to officially divorce today

Britney Spears and Kevin Federline will finalize their divorce today. Lawyers for KFed and the popstar are in court to get an LA County Superior Court judge to sign off on their settlement. Spears's lawyer will make a motion to keep the custody and support arrangements secret. According to TMZ, however, Federline is receiving $15,000 a month in child support from Spears, plus $20,000 a month in spousal support - although according to the prenup, all payments will cease in November. Custody is expected to be 50/50, but TMZ reports that neither party is happy with this arrangement and could return to court to ask for a change.

Troubles in Vegas for Brit

Britney Spears packed up her boys and took them to Vegas on Wednesday afternoon, where one of her bodyguards is accused of roughing up a paparazzo outside the Wynn Las Vegas. The photog claims he was shoved by Julio "JC" Camera on Thursday and accidentally bumped into Spears's son Sean Preston. Spears then allegedly began yelling while Camera tackled the photographer to the ground and began punching. A spokesperson from the Vegas police department confirmed that Camera has been issued a citation for misdemeanor battery, and that Spears had filed an allegation of battery against the photographer on behalf of Sean. In addition to these troubles, Spears's ex-husband Kevin Federline is reportedly concerned that she did not have his permission to take their children out of California. "KFed is demanding that she get back to Los Angeles because she isn't allowed to have the kids out of state," says one source. Another insider says, "Britney did not have written permission to take the kids out of state. She needs written permission and she never got it or alerted people she was leaving. I'm sure Kevin's lawyer...is mulling over how to handle this."

Stolen clothes, bizarre behavior on set

The New York Post posted the following about Britney Spears's nightmare photoshoot and interview with OK! mag:

"After wiping her fried chicken-grease-covered hands on a $274 dress and picking up her puppy's poop with a $6,700 Zac Posen gown, Britney Spears shocked OK! magazine staffers at her photo shoot last Thursday by storming out with thousands of dollars worth of merchandise. Spears allegedly fled the shoot wearing $12,861 worth of jewelry, a $974 Vera Wang dress, $380 Lanvin heels and a $281 Pucci scarf. When the clothes she ruined are added, the total comes to $21,267. The pop-tard "wander[ed] around babbling like a baby" as well as "fondling her breasts...as if not aware she's not alone," according to a post on LaineyGossip.com. OK! says in the issue hitting stands today it's exposing the "dark side of fame" that Spears revealed at the shoot, where her behavior became increasingly erratic. The issue includes an unflattering picture of her leaving the set. Spears "promptly banished everyone except the hair/makeup team to another floor in the house," according to OK! "Then, even the hair and makeup people were ordered out so that Brit's friends could do the job, using the equipment brought in by the pros... The wardrobe crew was informed that the high-end selection of clothing just wasn't sexy. The items weren't short enough or tight enough." Following a brief interview - after which Spears broke for lunch and rubbed grease from her fried chicken on the front of her dress - she "used the restroom repeatedly without bothering to close the door," OK! reports, adding that her "new Yorkie puppy followed suit by pooping on a $6,700 Zac Posen gown." Earlier this week, Spears was captured on camera swearing at paparazzi while her two boys, Jayden James and Sean Preston, sat crying in the back seat. According to insiders, Spears was asking for $1 million as well as control of photographs and editorial content. But since the shoot was canceled, OK! paid her nothing. Reps for the magazine had no comment on the terms of the deal.

OK! mag to publish the "truth"

OK! mag are reportedly going to go ahead - warts and all - with publishing what was described as a "disastrous" photo shoot and interview with Britney Spears. The weekly's editor-in-chief issued a statement saying, "OK! spent a heartbreaking day with Britney Spears and witnessed first-hand an emotional cry for help that will leave you shocked and sad. This week, on newsstands Friday, the truth will be told." Spears allegedly had somewhat of a meltdown during the self-arranged interview, behaving erratically and punctuated with frequent trips to the bathroom.

Britney gives disastrous interview

Britney Spears's self-arranged photo shoot and interview with OK! mag was reportedly such a disaster that execs at the weekly are said to be trying to decide whether to accurately report what went down or smooth over the details for the sake of Spears's reputation. The popstar's behavior during the interview was "nothing less than a meltdown," according to sources, who say she was "completely out of it" during the photo shoot. TMZ reports that Spears's eyes rolled back in her head at one point, and that her mood was nothing short of erratic - and changed each time she returned from frequent bathroom breaks. The popstar became paranoid during the interview, fearing the ceiling might cave in at one point.

Meanwhile...Spears caused chaos outside Lisa Kline in Beverly Hills on Monday afternoon, as her bodyguard tried to clear a path for her from the store to her car. Aggressive paparazzi pushed violently in an attempt to snap a few shots of the star. LAPD was called, but things had calmed down by the time they arrived. A $4,000 flowerbed in front of the shop was destroyed in the melee. Video below.
