Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Noted singer Andi Meriem Matalatta who was often also called "The Pearl from the South" passed away in the Netherlands on Friday evening.
Matalatta, 53, died of a complication of some illnesses, according to Agung Syaifullah, her brother-in-law, in a statement here Saturday.
She had been in Amsterdam with her only daughter, Dania, 32, for the past two days. Doctors said Matalatta had a wound on her hand that had become gangrenous, and hypertension. The two conditions eventually affected her heart.
Born in Makassar (South Sulawesi Province) on August 31, 1957, she had had her daughter from her first late husband, Andi Hermien Matallata. She later married Hendra Pribadi.
Her body was expected to arrive in Indonesia on Monday (June 7).
