First lady tells children to love Merapi

Sleman, Yogyakarta (ANTARA News) - First Lady Ani Yudhoyono has told children staying in refugee shelters at Maguwoharjo sports stadium here Sunday, to love Mt Merapi.

"We all have to love Merapi since it is God`s creation," she told the children during her visit to the refugee shelters here Sunday.

Ani Yudhoyono appreciated a picture of Mt Merapi with hot clouds that Tejo, one of hundreds of children staying in the stadium, had made.

"This is Mt Merapi and these are hot clouds," Tejo explained his picture to Ani Yudhoyono.

After receiving the picture from Tejo, Ani asked the boy about the condition of his house after Mt Merapi eruption.

"Is your house destroyed?" asked Ani.

Besides visiting the children in the shelters, Ani also visited the other evacuees.
Ani went to Yogyakarta with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and several top officials to set up the state office in Yogyakarta.

The First Lady and her entourage arrived at the shelters at 10.30 AM to see the condition of the women and children evacuees in Maguwoharjo, Sleman, and distribute aid packages including books and stationeries for the kids.

Ani Yudhoyono`s visit was marked with a minor incident to local journalists who wanted to report the First Lady`s inspection of the shelters.

The military personnel guarding the First Lady and entourage prevented journalists from entering the venue for security reasons.
