President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has recommended Indonesian Muslims follow the example set by the Prophet Muhammad by settling all problems “peacefully” and “with dignity”.
The President made the statement while addressing thousands of participants of a mass zikr (verse chanting in praise of Allah) at the National Monument (Monas) park in Central Jakarta, as part of the country's commemorations of Prophet Muhammad's birthday, on Tuesday.
“[The Prophet] set an example of how big reforms can be made wisely, in the right direction, in stages, and that all problems should be settled peacefully and with dignity,” Yudhoyono said.
“Let's follow his example, and use the personality traits of Prophet Muhammad SAW, who was wise and calm, as a guide for us. Let's follow the example of his leadership and wisdom, with which he could change the lives of a diverse community…”
The President also reminded Indonesians to remain united in resolving the nation's problems.
“Don't fight each other and blame each other,” he said, as quoted by Antara.
