Savage Beauty: The Exhibit of Alexander McQueen

Spotted, on the steps of The Met, basking in the sun and ready to take in the beauty of her once beloved designer's collection, Blogger Girl is beaming in the beauty of The City in the summer... As promised my darlings, I am reporting back on the phenomenal Alexander McQueen Exhibit at The Met!

Savage Beauty is from start to finish my favorite fashion exhibit thus far. Alexander McQueen was a true visionary, an artist whose medium was clothing. Constantly pulling from all art forms for his fashion shows, he was notorious for Wowing his audience time and time again. Every collection was a complete 180 from the last. He was truly the darling of the fashion world and set the bar high as he ushered us in to the next century of style.

At The Metropolitan Museum of Art, between now and August 7th, you can explore the inner workings of Alexander McQueen up close and personal. I never thought in my life I would get to study his entire collection at one time, in one space...much less at all. But to see all the intricate folds, impeccable tailoring, and even a summary of the background of the collections was so inspiring. These are the things I dreamed of studying in my school classes, I'm so glad I get to study them for fun now!

I seriously cannot impress upon you enough how utterly amazing this exhibit is. If you are in New York this summer you simply must stop by and take it all in. And if you are, let me know!! I will definitely need to be booking time to see this again!

Denpasar gearing up for Bali Art Festival

More than 15,000 artists from 334 groups are expected to join the 33rd Bali Art Festival on June 10 at the Bali Cultural Park in Denpasar, Bali.

“President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is scheduled to officiate,” Bali Cultural Agency head Ketut Suastika said on Friday as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.

A Bhisma Dewabharata traditional dance performance has been scheduled to open the event, which has a budget of more than Rp 4 billion (US$ 468,000).

Organizers have promised to keep most of Denpasar’s streets car-free during the event, Ketut said.

Parking would be available near Ngurah Rai sport center and the east square of the Renon Museum, he said.

“There will be shuttle buses carrying visitors from the parking lots to the venue every 15 minutes,” he said.

NYC Digs: This Weekend: International Pillow Fight & Japan Auction

This weekend held a smorgasbord of festivities here in NYC. The International Pillow Fight took place in Union Square along with an Art Auction Fundraiser for Japan in the Lower East Side. I hopped around to many things here and there from the Gansevoort Hotel in the Meatpacking District to a wonderful walk along the Hudson River on Sunday, capping off a perfect start to the first real Spring weekend NYC has yet to see for 2011.

Feathers rained from the ground up as crazy pillow fighters went all out. My friends got very into the fun as you can see...camo-check, double pillows-check, game face-check-check!

The Art Auction for Japan was in a random hole in the Lower East Side, as most things are, and super cool. Hip music provided the perfect setting for this broad range of art for a cause. I loved that there was an artist creating his piece on-site.

 My favorite was the painting of the blonde it emitted so much emotion. The 3D mixed media piece of a city building was by far the most interesting and intricate. Every detail was accounted for from tiny trash bags to the interior spaces in each window...and it was all from recycled material!

NYC Digs: Gallery Opening

From years of being a die hard Sex & The City fan, there are many things on my NYC Bucket List a la Carrie Bradshaw and the gang. It occurred to me a few weeks back that I have yet to attend a New York Gallery Opening. After meeting a new friend who works for the Susan Inglett Gallery in Chelsea, I learned they had a gallery opening coming up, so I immediately made plans to check it out!

Although much more artsy then the TV glam of SATC, I still had a really great time! I hope you enjoy the pop art inspiration from artist Hope Gangloff!

Holy Mixed Media Batman!

Darlings, I love art. Art Studio was my minor in college and I logged many hours happy, albeit caffeine induced, in my university's studio building drawing, sculpting, and processing film. So when I come along an artist whom I really admire I love to showcase them to my loves...you!

Sandhi Schimmel Gold recently came across my inbox and I was tres triste to find I had missed her showing in NYC! I would love to see her work at a gallery event! Maybe she will be back soon...

Mixed media normally grabs my attention, but the way Gold has mixed Fashion Pop Art with it has resulted in a stunning collection. Edgy, unique and utterly demure I am officially smitten. If only one could be hanging on my exposed brick wall I do believe my Manhattan Bachelorette Pad would be complete! Paris vs NYC

It is interesting to me how depending on the personality, each person will have a different opinion of what the greatest city is. For me, there is no competition to New York City being the most exciting city on the planet. As much as I love Rome for its ancient beauty, Paris for its romance and London for its edgy eccentricity... New York is the place with the excitement, the art, the massive diverse culture, the in-your-face, fast paced excitement that I thrive off of in life. I am learning more and more that I can find a shop or restaurant of anything I may be seeking...of course I will never forsake traveling to the actual cultural origin (traveling is my first love) but for a place to call home, New York takes the cake.

I discovered this graphic artist Vahram Muratyan last week who has done a wonderful rendition of Paris vs New York and I think it is a great graphic print series. You can find more prints as he adds them on his blog Paris vs NYC.

Jakarta to host int`l arts festival

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Jakarta is to host the Arts Summit International festival next October 4-24, Minister of Culture and Tourism Affairs Jero Wacik said here on Sunday.

The festival which was held once every three years would present several world`s art products coming from the combination of arts, science and technology.

The arts festival would present dance performance from Hyun Ok Park (South Korea), theater show by Milan Sladek (Germany), dance performance by Leina Roebana (Holland), music performance by Tale Ensemble (the United States) and Pierrot Lunaire (Austria).

Indonesia as a host would present Suket Puppet show by Slamet Gundono, theater performance by Satu Lampung, Gamelan Pendro and Cundami from Bali, music performance by Blacius Subono and dance performance by Nan Jombang Dance Company and Sekar Kliwon Nanu Munajar.

This year`s festival would also have an international seminar discussing a recent research titled "Contemporary Arts and the Demand of Cultural Industries".

Vatican envoy asks Papua Catholics to preserve Sentani Festival

Sentani, Papua (ANTARA News)- Vatican Ambassador to Indonesia Mgr Leopoldo Girellin called on the Catholic community in Papua to preserve the traditional Lake Sentani Festival (FDS).

"All positive things that we go about in faith will be of great advantage to all people," Girellin said at a gathering with local government officials, religious and community figures from Jayapura and Keerom districts at the Dapur Papua restaurant here on Monday.

The Vatican envoy said traditional arts and culture anywhere should be preserved and upheld for the welfare of all people.

In his three-day pastoral visit to the easternmost Indonesian province of Papua, Girellin called on the local religious and community figures to continue maintaining religious harmony, tolerance, and peace in Papua.

He also called on the entire Catholic community in the province to support the local government in preserving the local traditional arts and culture, especially the Lake Sentani Festival.

The Vatican envoy on Sunday afternoon was greeted with a typical Papua traditional dance when he arrived at the Lake Sentani Festival arena at Kalkote village in Sentani.

On the occasion, he planted a number of trees at the lake side and then made a boat trip around the lake to enjoy the surrounding natural beauty found nowhere else in the world.

After visiting Jayapura , the Holy See`s envoy would also visit the Merauke archdiocese in Merauke district on June 20 before returning to Jakarta.

Meanwhile, Jayapura district head Habel Melkias Suwae said the Vatican envoy came to Papua on a pastoral mission but he also took time to visit the Lake Sentani Festival arena.

Habel said the Vatican envoy was keenly interested in the Lake Sentani Festival themed "Loving Culture for Our Future" because he acknowledged that by loving and preserving their traditional and cultural values , people were also doing something good for their future and the next generation.

President asks community leaders to realize world culture forum

Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA Newes) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono asked Balinese community leaders to help realize the idea of organizing a periodical World Cultural Forum.

The president made the request in his address when opening the 32nd Bali Arts Festival (PKB) at the open-air ArtCenter here on Saturday evening.

When he made the appeal the head of state referred to the holding of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. "At a time, Bali could also organize a world cultural forum which could be attended by experts and various other parties," the president said.

It could also be attended by the lovers of arts and culture, science and technology, history, world heritage, tourism operators and non-governmental organizations (NGO).

The president said that Bali had been known to the international community for a long time as the most beautiful island in the world because it was bestowed with natural beauty and traditions.

"The belief in the harmonious relations between mankind and nature has caused Bali to be called the island of paradise," he said.

Bali has also served as the center of enjoyable arts and culture which are appreciated and even loved by the world as well, the head of state said.

"Bali has served as an icon for Indonesia`s tourism and become one of a main foreign tourist destination," he added.
