US President Barack Obama has confirmed a plan to visit the resort island of Bali during his Indonesian outing in the next two weeks.
Bali governor Made Mangku Pastika said Wednesday he had been informed of Obama’s trip to the island of paradise. However, Pastika refused to unveil who had notified him about the much-anticipated visit.
“Since he will come to Bali, the topic will be of course related to culture. We will propose that he visit Uluwatu temple as it is home to cultural heritage of great historical and spiritual values,” Pastika said as quoted by kompas.com.
Pastika added the temple was quick and easy to reach. “That is an important consideration as it is related to security arrangement,” he said.
Earlier in the day a C-17 plane from the US Air Force carrying logistical needs for Obama’s visit landed at Ngurah Rai Airport in Denpasar. Heru Legowo, general manager of state airport operator PT Angkasa Pura I Ngurah Rai, said two more US planes carrying heavy duty equipment would arrive soon.
