A group of Indonesian citizens of Israeli descent announced on Thursday that it was planning to hold a ceremony in Jakarta to commemorate Israel’s day of independence.

Spokesman for the group, Ungguh Dahana, said in a statement sent to the Jakarta Globe that the celebration was aimed at recognizing and respecting the sovereignty of Israel as a Jewish State.

But he stressed that they were still Indonesian citizens who loved the proclamation of the Indonesian Republic and the sovereignty of the Indonesian Republic.

The celebration will be held this Saturday, Unggun said, and will commence by hoisting the Indonesian flag, singing Indonesian’s national anthem and reading the national proclamation text and the Pancasila.

“Then we will hoist the Israel flag, then sing the national anthem Hatikvah, and read the declaration of Israel’s independence. We will then pray for the peace of the world and improvement sto the security situation in Indonesia,” Unggun said.

He said that many Israeli descendants living in Indonesia really hoped the government would be open to increased diplomatic relations with Israel government.

“We hope may God bless Israel and Indonesia,” he said.

For security reasons, Ungguh denied to reveal the location and the exact time of the planned celebration.
