Healthy Hollywood: Fab Food Friday – A Healthy Sweet Kick For Selena Gomez!

Healthy Hollywood: Fab Food Friday – A Healthy Sweet Kick For Selena Gomez!

June 24, 2011

Selena Gomez can have her sweets and eat ‘em too!

Chocolate can do a body good – fab news for the teen sensation, who blamed her recent illness and hospitalization on her love of junk food. “The problem is I don’t eat right. I love everything that’s possibly not good for me.”

Selena, who’s back on a healthier track, but admits a major sweet spot for chocolate, chocolate, and more chocolate, “I love M&Ms, Kit Kats, Snickers, and Goobers at the movies,” can still indulge.

“While all that chocolate we ate as kids didn’t do us any good, in the last few years, we’ve seen chocolate of high enough quality to be called truly healthy,” reveals cocoa guru and founder of Wei of Chocolate, Lisa Reinhardt. “Recent studies have shown that the right kind of chocolate lowers blood pressure and cholesterol, and is strongly linked to reduced risk of heart disease. It increases brain function, aids weight loss by cutting cravings to other foods and protects women from complications during pregnancy.” Plus, regular consumption of chocolate actually reduces wrinkles. As a chocoholic myself, all this healthy hoopla, feeds my desire for sweets without the guilt! Yippee!

But, not any chocolate will do – the higher the cocoa percentage the healthier! Plus, Lisa shares a few more words of advice, “First: it must be dairy-free. Chocolate is off the charts in antioxidants, but milk binds with them and doesn’t allow your body to absorb them. Second: Organic is best. The pesticides are allowed in non-organic chocolate cause headaches, are carcinogenic and can disrupt reproduction. Third: Go soy-free. 93% of the soy in the U.S. is genetically modified, and most chocolates contain soy lecithin. Just because it says “dark chocolate” doesn’t mean it meets any of these criteria. Even some 85% bars still have milk powder in them.”

To give chocolate an added kick for mind, body, and spirit, Lisa infuses her line of chocolate with floral essences. “Like essential oils, each is associated with a healing property like peace, relaxation or joy; but unlike oils they work on the acupuncture meridians without scent or flavor.”

There are 6 different blends of Wei of Chocolate:

Wei Love - chili-infused 74% cacao with Hong Kong orchid flower essence to enhance love and a sense of well-being. It’s great for people who are a little too hard on themselves.

Wei Gratitude - chai spice-infused 65% cacao with Dyssodia (desert daisy) flower essence to enhance peace. It helps people take a break when they’ve been working too hard.

Wei Joyful - citrus-infused 70% cacao with Night-blooming Cereus flower essence. This flower blooms only one night a year in the full moon and helps people reach their full potential.

Wei Inspired - mocha-infused 68% cacao with Hollyhock and Yarrow flower essence. Hollyhock awakens more love & compassion; Yarrow rebalances after too much computer and cell phone use.

Wei Pure - pure dark 70% cacao with 7 flower essences, including Jade Succulent and Mountain Laurel. This is an “everything chocolate” that awakens more joy, peace, love, inspiration & energy.

Wei Relaxed - pure dark 68% cacao with Passion Flower and Bird of Paradise flower essences. Our most popular blend, this one calms and relaxes the mind, and helps people sleep better at night.
